Mark Lomas Santa Barbara Montecito Hope Ranch
The California housing market accelerated last week, up 67.6 percent over cumulative sales to the same point in 2020. Overall, home sales are only slightly below their levels in late 2020 when statewide totals were near 15 year highs.
Last Wednesday, a federal judge ruled that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention overstepped its bounds when issuing a national moratorium on evictions. This will largely not affect rulings in California, as Governor Newsom extended the state’s eviction moratorium in January to run through June 30.
However, a new rule from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau does require attorneys and agents of landlords or owners of residential property (debt collectors) to provide written notice to tenants of their rights under the federal Center for Disease Control eviction moratorium. C.A.R. has created a new form to assist with this.
As we move into the second quarter Santa Barbara and Montecito continue to experience a strong seller’s market with limited inventory and high buyer demand. We are now just beginning to see the inventory increase while at the same time the average sales price in Montecito rose to $5,859,963 and rose to $2,225,636 in Santa Barbara.
Elsewhere seen around town…
Having just bought a $14.2 million dollar home on 9 acres on Park Lane Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry looks like they might not be spending much time there. Katy just signed a $168 million dollar contract for a two year residency at the new $4.9 billion Resorts World complex in Las Vegas.
Prince Harry has been taking to pedaling his new electric bike around Montecito followed closely by a security posse in black Range Rovers. Last seen checking out the volleyball courts at East Beach.
Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo purchase Montecito Estate. Levine sold his Beverly Hills home to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi for $45 million two years ago and then splashed out $22.7 million for the George Washington Smith historic El Miraval estate.
Having sold his Montecito compound to Ellen and Portia for $49 million Dennis Miller is downsizing and has purchased a $16.3 million dollar home just across the street from his old property.
Congratulations to Montecito’s Michael Keaton for his Screen Actor’s Award for the Trial of the Chicago 7.
Montecito’s Ariana Grande bought her tudor style estate from Ellen last June and is one of the host on NBC’s the Voice.
Looks like Montecito’s Don Johnson is headed back up to San Francisco for a remake of Nash Bridges. Cheech Marin will continue on as his partner in the new series.
Matt Gaetz? Really? A former UCSB student, 26 year old Ginger Luckey, is at the center of a sex scandal. They’re engaged. Will the Ginger snap? Luckey, or not so lucky?
Montectio’s Brad Paisley came to the aid of Texan born musician Buck McCoy who lost his cat and worldly possessions after the Nashville Christmas bombing. Paisley sent him a guitar so he could continue playing and created a GoFundAccount which after it’s first week had raised over $35,000.
Valley Heart Ranch, Montecito’s only coffee plantation spread over 9.5 acres is up for sale for 14.9 million. Located in Toro Canyon the estate produced 2,500 pounds of coffee last year.
